Objective:
Vanleena’s Pre-Professional Day Program is specifically designed to provide the more focused and dedicated student with quality training in preparation for a career within the dance field; most importantly within the most nurturing and positive environment possible. Our Expectations:
At Vanleena we anticipate that the students who complete the Pre-Professional Day Program will go forward with confidence, self-discipline and a continued love for the arts. Students who demonstrate skill & focus will be expected to go into credible post-graduate programs or begin their career in the arts. The Program:
The Pre-Professional Day Program is open to enthusiastic students who are in Grades 8-12 and who are capable of maintaining a high level in their academic studies. Students usually leave their academic school before lunch to accommodate their dance training in the early afternoon. Vanleena works in conjunction with school principals, and/or counsellors and teachers, in efforts to assure that each student is getting the best out of the program. Half-day classes begin at 1:45pm and end at 4:00pm Monday to Friday as well as classes on Saturdays.RAD Exams:
As part of the program’s curriculum, Vanleena students take part in the Royal Academy of Dance examinations in one or more sessions throughout the year, providing the student is technically ready. These sessions take place in the fall, spring and summer. We are pleased to say that many of our Day Program students last year achieved excellent results in 2 to 4 exams in one year!Performing Opportunities:
Specific performances for these students are to enhance their artistry and performing capabilities. Opportunities include; “One Hour and 24 Solos” which has each student performing a solo created for them by guest artists and/or instructors at the school, Symphonia with conductor Clyde Mitchell (previously with the VSO), and a Christmas show. There are many performances and competitions alongside the main body of students at the school as well.Bi-Annual Trip:
Focusing on cultural and historical virtues, an annual spring excursion provides the students with a “hands on” approach to viewing some of the most beautiful theatres and performances in the world. In spring 2007, 11 students travelled to St. Petersburg, Russia, where they took classes taught by renowned teachers and were able to see some of the ballet world’s most prized treasures! We are currently planning another trip in Spring 2010...stay tuned for more details!Demi Program:
Open to Grade 7 students, this program is designed to give the more focused, younger student a preview into the full Pre-Professional Half Day Program. These younger students only leave their academic schools on Mondays and Fridays for their own classes at 1:45 - 4:00.Please contact Mrs. Lacasse by telephone (604.983.2623) or via e-mail if you have further questions or would like more information about the Pre-Professional Half Day Program or the Demi Program.
